Nickel Asia, ePLDT advance sustainability goals with strategic Cloud migration partnership

Manila, Philippines [29 March 2023] – Nickel Asia Corporation (NAC), a listed natural resources development company, recently announced its strategic tie-up with ePLDT, the ICT subsidiary of the PLDT Group, to deploy cloud-based solutions that would help transition its business operations to digital and support the company’s and its subsidiaries’ (“NAC Group”) commitments to their sustainability agenda.

Through the partnership, ePLDT has deployed Microsoft 365 to NAC Group’s thousands of employees nationwide. This cloud-based business productivity software enables NAC Group employees to communicate more efficiently and collaborate seamlessly through a unified program application. It’s also equipped with a highly secure platform that allows access to information, tools, and resources on-site or remotely since Microsoft 365 is underpinned by a robust and highly reliable cloud infrastructure.

“Digital transformation is a collaborative journey we undertake with our customers. Rather than simply providing solutions, we collaborate with them to ensure that we’re able to map out the right strategy that most effectively delivers their desired business outcomes,” said Victor S. Genuino, President and CEO of ePLDT. “This process also helps us address their unique technology pain points – whether it is to increase and find new markers, grow revenue, save cost, or improve efficiency.”

Committed to empowering businesses in their digital advancement, PLDT Enterprise, the B2B arm of PLDT, and ePLDT tailored solutions for the NAC Group to further accelerate its transformation journey and advance its initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint.

“Our collaborative partnership with Nickel Asia enabled us to go beyond modernizing their systems, and also streamline their migration process, enhance the end-user experience, and jointly plot a roadmap — all with the aim of bringing NAC closer to their desired business objectives and sustainability goals,” adds Mitch Locsin, First Vice President and Head of Enterprise and International Business Groups of PLDT and Smart.

As the first company with mining interests in the Philippines to join the world’s largest sustainability initiative, United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), NAC saw the need to integrate systems that could help reduce its own carbon footprint and at the same time improve the everyday work experience of the NAC Group’s employees. NAC can fully leverage on ePLDT’s multi-cloud expertise and benefit from Microsoft’s technologies to conduct day-to-day processes more efficiently and sustainably.

“It has always been Nickel Asia’s aim to contribute to a progressive and sustainable future. This is why it’s essential for us to partner with tech providers, like ePLDT and PLDT Enterprise, who share the same values and enable us to continue operating with the utmost care for our people and the environment,” said Chris Fernandez, NAC’s Vice President for Process & Technology Innovation. “Through this partnership, we can make sure that we are responsibly progressing towards digitalization.”

PLDT Group is also a global-level United Nations Global Compact Network (UNGCN) participant. As part of its ESG commitment, sustainability is one of the key considerations when customizing solutions. This aligns well with NAC’s decarbonization ambition as the Group also sets the goal of reducing its greenhouse gas emission to 40% by 2030. In parallel, Microsoft also has its own goal of becoming carbon negative by 2030 which is an added value to NAC’s UNGC membership.

ePLDT continues to provide support through training hours around adoption and change management, while certified program experts also provided NAC with further guidance on how to modernize and transform key areas of operations as these will help them achieve higher levels of efficiency and competitiveness.
